"Meandered over from Chuckwalla. Definitely did not take the most direct route. Very cool open mine shaft and ruins of a mining camp halfway between the two peaks. Excellent scree descent route off the NE corner of the summit." — edg • Jan 14, 2018
"I hiked Chuckwalla and Cross as a loop from Jawbone Canyon. This entire area is now closed off from OHV use due to the LA DWP wind farm. Hikers have to slip through a barbed-wire fence to access the area, but will find perfect desert solitude on the other side.
Both of these peaks are awesome: steep routes, 360 degree visibility, barren desert landscape, ridgetops, canyon bottoms, juniper groves, verdant springs, and historical mining ruins. It was warm for early March, making the hike a little harder and sweatier than I was expecting, but there was a small stream running in the canyon bottom, so I was able to cool off and hydrate. I took the awesome scree slope down from Cross Mountain, making the descent quick and fun. Finally, ran in to some cattle randomly in the desert near a spring." — klotito • Mar 12, 2017
