"Started at Windy Gap trailhead going clockwise around the loop getting Hawkins first, then Middle Hawkins and South Hawkins before heading down the fire road. Cloudy day below, but not up in the mountains. Really cool hiking above those clouds all day, and a brief section through chilly mist." — jodola • May 20, 2021
"Another awesome hike in the San Gabriels, my warm season playground. My plan was to hike the Hawkins Ridge to South Mt. Hawkins. I started out at the end of Crystal Lake Campground at 5,800' and took the famous Windy Gap Trail up to its namesake notch by Mt. Islip. I then proceeded up the Pacific Crest Trail the 1.4 miles until the Hawkins Ridge Trail, and as I arrived at the junction, I pondered whether I should add Mt. I proceeded south on Hawkins Ridge Trail and found a small use path branching off to the right, and took the steep path about .2 miles to the summit of Middle Hawkins. I did not see the register as seen in some people's photos, but knew I was there as it was the highest part by far of the Hawkins Ridge, and that there was a foot path to it! My next plan was to visit Sadie Hawkins, and rather than backtrack, I hiked cross country along the ridge downward and southward and then met up with the Hawkins Ridge Trail, but missed the ascent to Sadie, so I skipped backtracking to find it again and..." — brianpowell • Apr 21, 2018
"Starting from the pullout a mile east of Islip Saddle, I headed up a gully (not really a use trail) to the PCT, then hit Mt. Hawkins, Copter Ridge, back to Mt. Hawkins, then Middle Hawkins, and back down to my car. Total mileage was 13.39 miles. " — HikerMark • Jul 11, 2015
"Windy Gap to saddle. Went south on Hawkins Ridge to south side of Middle Hawkins and then ascended to summit. Took north trail back, which is steeper and loose soil/scree. First peak of the day." — srphilip • Sep 18, 2011
