"This was my 4th visit to this peak. The first was in February 2009 from the Del Valle side. Then an overnight backpacking trip in October 2010 from Sunol to Del Valle (the Giants win the pennant!). My 3rd visit was a 50K race from Mission Peak trailhead to Del Valle in May 2017 on a hot day. This time was a pleasant 20 mile hike on a beautiful day. " — khershey • May 20, 2023
"Another Bay Area Classic down! Long sought after. Chilly start in marine layer, “rose” above it with the relentless steep fireroady climbs. No difficulty routefinding thanks to following past peakery members' tracks. Despite it being mid-Oct it really heated up on our return, can’t imagine this place in mid-summer heat. The scale of this area is incredible, I think I said that to my friend 5 times. " — scott • Oct 12, 2022
"Uggg, this one is a bit of a bear! Highly recommend going in late fall or spring (failed last attempt during summer...too hot). It's a long hike, but has some beautiful spots, music helps...very pretty views. Be aware there are area's of private property, so before you wonder off track thinking it's a short cut (yes, we did), look at the map. Enjoy (and watch out for the rattlers, they are out there). Bring lots of water or a filter (some water sources, but it's not filtered) and sunscreen/hat." — colleenmarie512 • May 11, 2019
"Reached the Sunol Regional Wildnerness kiosk at 7:30am, the attendant wasn't there so I didn't have to purchase a parking permit. I had planned to purchase a Ohlone wilderness trail permit at the kiosk, but since it wasn't open, I just opted to head on out for the hike. Parked as far south as I could on Camp Ohlone Road, and walked the rest of the way, taking a left turn beyond the 'W' tree. Took Backpacker trail up to the Ohlone Wilderness trail which I followed to Rose Peak (about an 8.5 mile walk one way from the car). The trail gradually climbs up to the peak, except at trail marker 25, where the trail detours through a valley to the next ridge to the south and a short downhill is reached. Made it to the summit in under 4 hours. On the way back I took a slightly different route back, following Welsh Creek road for a time, in order to avoid a herd of cows that I had met up with that morning (shoo cows!). Really enjoyed the hike." — bobby • Jan 8, 2004
