"I ascended the top of Carris Hill while hiking the Wyanokie Circular Trail. That is a 5+ mile loop trail that encompasses three peaks, the highest being Carris Hill. The hike begins at the Norvin Green Forest parking area on Otterhole Road on the West Milford/Bloomingdale border. From the lot, I crossed a fairly wide and knee-deep Posts Brook, before making a right on the Butler/Hewett (blue) trail. The blue leads to the white trail which leads down to a fairly impressive (depending on recent rainfall) Chikahokie Falls. Continuing on the white trail which leads past the falls and along the brook, you will come upon a sign indicating Carris Hill trail. That trail is a steep and very rocky climb leading to multiple rocky ledges, all of which offer excellent views of the Wayne/Pequannock Valley area and all the way out to NYC. Carris Hill Scenic overlook is the highest ledge, but it is technically not this peaks summit. The actual summit is reached by taking the Hewett/Butler (blue) path from the scenic overlook, then making a sharp left on the Wyanokie Circular Trail (red).
