"Black Cap Mountain is a gem of the North Cascades with a surprisingly fun scramble to its summit. Starting from Slate Pass, the trail winds past Fred’s Lake and through the brushy Eureka Creek Valley before gaining Shellrock Pass. From camp, I made the climb via the ridge, which looked intimidating but was mostly class 2 terrain. The views of the wilderness are outstanding, and topping out on Black Cap after last year’s failed attempt was a satisfying accomplishment. I’ll be back to tag nearby Lake and Monument on a future trip." — Waterboy • Aug 11, 2025
