"Trail maps of the Forbes State Forest show the Birch Rock Overlook Trail petering out about halfway up the mountain. The big rock at the summit once commanded a modest view out over the Laurel Highlands, but young trees have long-since obscured it. (The fact that this part of the forest is a “natural area” means that the state no longer cuts back the growth.) I actually tried climbing a tree for a better look, but it didn’t help much. All you see from the top is more trees. The branches were almost all bare up in the highlands, save for a few patches of rusty colored beech leaves still clinging to the fading autumn season. Probably less than a three mile hike, round trip, from the parking area on County Line Road." — briansnyder • Nov 2, 2022
"Parked at the trail head on County Line Hill. Hiked South Loop Trail / Birch Rock Trail to the peak. Which was longer then expected.
Patchy snow was still on the ground from the 20" Frankenstorm two weeks ago.
No View" — hollis83 • Nov 17, 2012
"This was a hike of the Pittsburgh Hiking Meetup Group led by Jim Ritchie with 14 other hikers. We hiked in from County Line Rd, right on South Ridge Trail, right again on Birch Rock Trail. At end of trail, took rogue trail to summit point (see photo). Bushwhacked down due east, then north to South Ridge Trail again. " — jimritchie • Aug 28, 2011
