"Lots of snow in the Belknaps still, but felt a lot like mashed potatoes on this warm and sunny winter day. Went up the Red trail and hit Mt Anna, then over to Straightback and down Blueberry Pasture." — Alohabuffy • Mar 18, 2023
"Crisp, cool but sunny day in the Belknaps. Not sure we saw 30 deg. Sparse crowd as we hiked the Quarries and Straightbacks. But a lot of people on Major. Snow cover everywhere though." — Alohabuffy • Nov 19, 2022
"Was going to approach from Jesus Valley trail from Old Stage Rd. (all the posted signs made me nervous), so ended up using Blueberry Pasture and Straightback Mt. trails instead. Then went up to North Peak after going in a circle by mistake. Mosquitoes being mosquitoes." — SteveM_StickMan • May 15, 2022
"Waited for the rain to stop. Had some redlining in Jesus Valley to do. Sun came out at first, but by the time we worked around to Mt Major, it started to rain. Got moderate rain all the way down Boulder Trail." — Alohabuffy • Oct 31, 2021
"Went up Blueberry Pasture trail. It lived up to it's billing. Tons of ripe blueberries line the upper trail near the Mt Straightback summit. Delicious! Watched a rather large red tailed hawk on the Brook trail. It was hopping around a blowdown, looked like it was hunting up some lunch." — Alohabuffy • Jul 10, 2021
"Beautiful day for a hike, temps in the 50s, sunshine and a breeze to keep the bugs off, Really enjoyed a big loop including both Quarry Mts, both Straightback Mts and Mt Major." — Alohabuffy • May 31, 2020
"Eastern Belknap look to finish up the Belknap 12s for two of our group - Fairhiker and Alison. Got a early enough start to be the only two cars in the Jesus Valley Road TH - quiet (just passed by a single runner) until the Quarry Trail. Fairly bug-free (surprising) until the summit of Rand- then the black flies swarmed and kept wanting our blood. We deviated from the trails with a shortcut through the woods from the col between Rand and Mack and the BRT near Anna. 7.7 mile loop on a sunny late May day followed by ice cream in Alton- a great time. "A loop hike to close out my Belknap 12. Good hike. Picked up 17 ticks and killed all of them. Not the greatest views on these mountains, but there were a couple here and there." — newenglandwarrior • Jun 28, 2019
"Hit the trailhead about 8 a.m. Still some parking in the lot. Quick going up Mount Major Traill (blue) to the Brook Trail (yellow). The North Straightback link (green) was narrow and far less travelled. The climb was pretty steep and there is one place just below the summit of North Straightback that I had to use hands to climb up the rock. This slab also had a nice view so enjoy it because there is only a sign and cairn at the N. Straightback summit, no views. After a short rest, I followed the Dave Robert's Quarry Trail (white) to the South peak of Straightback, There were a couple of nice views of Mt. Major and Sunset lake along the ridge trail. At the S. Straightback summit, I chose the Blue blazed Mt. Major trail to descend and picked up the yellow Brook trail for a nice jaunt back to the parking lot. This is an awesome trail if you want some solitude. I saw 5 people on Straightback mountain. Everyone takes the blue trail from the parking lot up Mt. Major." — rjnick • Jun 16, 2018
"Did the Belknap Range Traverse (alternate route) to hit 10 peaks and complete my Hike366 project. A really fun route! Left a car at the end of the hike and took an Uber to the starting trailhead. What an adventure." — beaucheminjess • May 10, 2018
