"After a two weekend break, I finally made it back out!
We were going to try Noyes again, but the smoke was too thick to justify the drive. Plus, I really don't want to miss those views.
Decided to stay in K-Country.
The Elbow lake trail was busy. We saw a few people on the Piper Pass trail, but had Schlee to ourselves. I don' think this is a very popular mountain. The scrambling was fun enough. You can mostly avoid the scree on easy to moderate slabs, plus a spine. The scree makes the descent easier. Views were limited with the smoke, but the jagged Opal peaks looked imposing and mysterious with the smoke cover. Pretty cool.
I don't think this will be anybody's favorite scramble. If you haven't been to the area, Toombstone South is much better. But Schlee is worthwhile for sure. We didn't bike and were much faster than Nugara's suggested time...and we weren't in a hurry. This isn't a big day.
Good choice for something close to calgary if you have already completed the obvious ones." — mike_rogers81 • Aug 14, 2021
"via S ridge from Valleyview trail as per first ascent, with significant elevation loss to east slopes to avoid 10 m step near summit. Place "Grizzly Group" first ascent record in new container (water bottle was in shreds but plastic bag saved the papers.) Son Jason (15 yrs) made it part way up." — KrisT • Aug 3, 1997
