"Buller Mountain - July 11, 2020. Went up Mt Buller for sunrise this morning. We took the NW drainage which the first ascent party used back in the day. This is definitely the way to go early season (it's still early season???) since there's still avalanche debris covering 400 vertical meters of the gully making super easy travel in both directions. The other 300m were pretty painless as-well. This shaves about 4km in each direction off the regular route to the col, I highly recommend going this way until later in summer when this snow is gone. Although rated as a moderate scramble, we found it to be on the easy side, the slabs require care but no real hands on scrambling. It's a bit of a battle from the col to the summit, but an easy descent on scree. Views are fantastic in all directions. We loved it. 1050m gain 6.5km 5hrs20mins including an hour on the summit. Took photos of everything I could" — jakefinnan • Jul 11, 2020
"Very pleasant hike with two short stretches of scrambling on slabs near the summit.
Contrary to some previous reports, there is a faint trail that branches off by the second bridge and eliminates bushwhacking." — Taras • Jun 25, 2017
"A great scramble. Hiked up on Buller hiking trail, at the second bridge we headed up the scree to the col. From the col we bashed some more scree to gain the ridge. The ridge offered moderate scrambling (mild exposure). The descent was pretty quick. Hit a moose on the drive home, seems to be some minor dents and a broken windshield, but no injuries and the car was drivable. Wasn't going fast and moose might very well survive also." — BertB • Jun 10, 2015
"Wed night afterwork CSMC trip. Up and down in 5 hrs at a casual pace. This summit was much better than I thought it would be. Beautiful night. Bert hit a moose on the way home which was a downer.
