"This mountain, which has double peaks, sits in a remote area north of Magdalena. The hike is short through open country that provides nice views of the surrounding Bear Mountains. It's one of those hikes where you spend far more time getting to the mountain than hiking it. The mountain is on Cibola National Forest land but there's private property nearby which may be cause for access issues. To get to the mountain, turn off US-60, west of Magdalena onto NM-169 and remain on it for about ten miles where you will see a sign for Forest Road 123. Turn onto FR-123 which is a graded dirt/gravel road and stay on it. The road will pass through national forest lands then onto private land. The road name will change to Road 123 and eventually Buricito Road but its all the same road. Los Cerros Barril is only about a half-mile off the the road so you will see it. When you reach Geronimo Road, you have a choice, you can continue onward about a mile more to national forest land and access Los Cerros Barril from its northwest side or you can turn onto Geronimo Road marked with with a hard to read black sign.
