"The day started out beautifully, with nice clouds & the flowers in full bloom. There were lots of birds chirping & lizards everywhere. I wanted to hike to a big arch I had been to before & try to get to the peak it sits on. The arch looks like an evil eye. I hiked out through White Basin to the beautiful canyon that leads up to the arch. There is a scramble to get up t the arch, but it's on solid, grippy limestone. After sitting for awhile at the arch, I looked for a way up the peak. There is an exposed class 3 way to the top of the ridge from the arch, but I'm not 100% sure one would be able to make it all the way across the ridge. It's quite rough. So, I dropped below the cliffs & headed over closer to the summit. I could see a few class 3 options, but by that point it had started to rain pretty heavily. There had not been rain in the forecast for this area! I decided to hold off on the peak & start heading back. It poured heavily off & on, with some loud thunder too. Luckily, I had an emergency rain poncho in my pack. It was both comical & annoying scrambling down the canyon with a plastic bag billowing around me & getting caught on all the jaggy plants. A memorable day!" — StudioHoodoo • Apr 21, 2019
