"This hike was started at 11 AM. I climbed up the Silverado Trail and started to see nice views into the valley. After that I climbed through a meadow with a lonely rock. The meadow had amazing views into where you started, Bald Peak, and Orange. Then I climbed by the Cairn Corner and climbed under some power lines. After that, I climbed through a firebreak section with amazing views. Then I passed by a rain measuring gauge and turned right on the Main Divide Road to go onto the False Bedford Peak. The false peak has nice views and a pole. I then climbed down the firebreak of False Bedford Peak and then went up the firebreak to real Bedford Peak. Then I climbed through a meadow at the summit and then went to the real top. The real top has a register can and a sign, with many nice views. " — lc444 • Dec 5, 2023
"Completed the Maple Springs Loop and its peaks. There was a mountain bikers event today, so the mountain bikers were all over the loop. I certainly stood out as the only hiker." — MikeTeeples • Apr 15, 2023
"A long one today. Started at the Maple Springs trailhead in Silverado Canyon. The first 7 miles were an easy grade up the road, the first 3 miles of which were paved. First stop was Maple Springs point, which was a couple hundred feet of bush-whacking to get to the actual peak. Next up, Peak 4380. Fortunately, a fire break was created probably last year which provided a way up off of Main Divide without the bush-whacking. This was right next to the big Holy Jim fire area from last fall. 3rd on the loop was Peak 4260, another fire break path off the road. Shortly after was Peak 4120, followed by Bald Peak. All involved fire break scrambles off the road; the path up to Bald Peak was pretty steep in loose gravel making both the ascent and decent 'interesting'. Peak 3820 was next (same fire break scramble), followed by Peak 3840. This one was just a steep path that was part bushwacking. Bedford Peak was the final peak. Then the final few miles down a steep single path that was mostly loose gravel making it hard on feet and hiking shoes alike! 18 miles, 8 peaks. Like I said, a long one today. Throughout all of this, great views all the way around!" — marc • Apr 14, 2019
"I started out at about 5:45am in blackness and drizzle with an ambitious plan to go up the Silverado Trail at the Maple Springs TH and hike to possibly Santiago Peak and descend Maple Springs Truck Trail, about a 23 mi r/t expedition. This time, I decided to hit many of the peaks along Main Divide, pretty much all of which have firebreaks branching off the road to reach their summits! Bedford is the second summit after joining Main Divide, and I hit both. I then continued southeast along Main Divide under foggy, drizzly, showery skies, and hit the next 2 firebreak summits, the second of which is Peak 3840. I then continued more south, but missed the firebreak for Peak 3820, which I failed to realize, is immediately northwest of the junction of Main Divide and Bedford Motorway (oh, well, next time!!) I kept southeast along Main Divide under the transmission lines that cross the mountains and soon I was on Bald Peak. The sun busted through a couple of times, but then retreated. Soon, I continued southeast, and the very next summit was Peak 4120. The north side was way too muddy, so I went up the much easier south side firebreak. I did the exact same on Peak 4260, which was t..." — brianpowell • Feb 10, 2019
"This was my first day in several weeks that I had a full day available. I jumped on the opportunity and chose to do a 4 peak loop hike in the Santa Ana Mountains. I got started at 7AM, since I would need all the daylight hours I could get since I was going 18 miles. The loop includes Bedford Peak, Peak 3840, Bald Peak, and Modjeska Peak. The cold morning with ample gusts of wind helped make the climb rather easy. It is about 3.3 miles with a 2200 foot gain. After a short visit, I continued on Main Divide road toward peak 3840 and beyond." — MikeTeeples • Feb 19, 2018
"Hiked up from Silverado Canyon up Switchbacks to Fire Break, then to Main Divide Rd. then use trail to summit. I love the bench on top. Unfortunately my camera malfunctioned, and I had to use a friend's cell phone to take photos, and I am still waiting for him to e-mail me the photos I took with it." — brianpowell • Dec 3, 2016
"Fun yet tough short climb to a great peak. I have full hike directions and info on my blog here: https://hikingguy.com/hiking-trails/hiking-orange-county/hike-the-bedford-peak-trail-orange-county/" — HikingGuy • Nov 11, 2016
"#19 of my 100 in 2014 goal. Went up with some friends via the Bedford Motorway. Drank some beer, smoked some bud on the top. Took some funny pictures and moved on to Bald Peak via the Main DIvide Road." — 1-with-Nature • Mar 30, 2014
"We parked right at the gate since it was only 100 feet away from the trail head and began our hike. It was a steady climb all the way up on the bedford motorway from silverado canyon. It was extremely cloudy that day, the clouds settled low over the peak and made the area seem all mystified and that a t-rex would pop out. When we reached the top we only had a small window of visibility before the clouds dropped on us and it became cold fast. So, we rushed on our summit pictures and head back to the car as fast as we could. " — CaptainBadass • Oct 21, 2012
"Went up on a cool cloudy day with my Girl. It started warm and sunny at the trail head but not much later a cloud covered the sun to keep us cool on the steep ascend up Bedford road. Pretty soon the clouds surrounded us making the hike quite eerie. It looked like a scene out of Jurassic Park when looking at the ridges blanketed with clouds. We made it to the top just in time to enjoy the view to the east toward Lake Mathews just before the clouds came in and swallowed us on the summit leaving us in fog with no view. It got cold up there quickly so we made our way down. As soon as we got out of the clouds we felt better and enjoyed the rest of the hike." — 1-with-Nature • Oct 21, 2012
