Highlights
- Yushan, also known as Jade Mountain, is the highest mountain in Taiwan and the 4th highest mountain on an island.
- In the winter, Yushan is often capped with thick snow which makes the entire peak shine like stainless jade, hence its name.
- Yushan and surrounding mountains belong to the Yushan Range, which is part of Yushan National Park, Taiwan's largest, highest and least accessible national park.
- Contains the largest tract of wilderness remaining in Taiwan.
- Has 5 main peaks with the Main Peak being the most popular.
- International hikers often climb Yushan along with Gunung Kinabalu and Mount Fuji for the "Asian Trilogy" peak challenge.

"Had a one day hiking permit, obtained online. Arrived the day prior to hiking due to the local authorities shutting down the park access road from 1730 - 0700. Parked by the Tataka Information Center, slept in the car for a few hours then left at midnight. Hiked the main park road to another road heading up to the Tataka TH and the trail to Mount Jade Main Peak. Dealt with heavy fog and drizzle all the way; summit was cold and very windy. On the return the weather was much better. Advise you to bring gloves for the extensive metal chains used as climbing aides through the rocks below the summit." — fredbrown585 • May 14, 2024

"The trail from Tataka is in excellent condition, 10.9 km to the summit, but most climbers stay at Paiyun Lodge, 3400m, about 4 hrs. from Tataka. From the lodge to the summit one needs between 90min. and 2 hrs. (usually in the dark). The upper part is steep, but there are chains all the way to the top." — martinlutterjohann • Nov 7, 2017
