Hike and car shuttling around the Beaver Kill range to red line trails for four friends working on the Catskill All Trails challenge. After an easy whack to the summit of Sand Pond mountain it didn't take much encouragement to get the group to visit the summit of Willy Wonka mtn, another Catskill 100 highest. On our descent to Beaver Kill road, our lunch spot, we startled a mama bear with three cubs right next to the trail. We were entertained by one cub who erroneously climbed a tree while its siblings and mama headed downhill. It had to slide back down rapidly in order to catch up to them, that had to hurt on the rough bark. Unfortunately no one got their phone out quickly enough to get a picture. Ah the joys of hiking in areas that are lightly traveled.
