"Watch Hill offers an outstanding bang for your hiking buck. My Caltopo calculations show the net elevation gain to be less than 400 feet over ~3 miles, and Alltrails lists the cumulative gain as 895 feet. That's nothing in the Adirondacks. The reward for such a modest hike is a pair of rocky overlooks with phenomenal views of nearby Snowy Mountain and the peaks around Indian Lake. The second overlook is especially nice. This would be a good bonus hike after Snowy Mountain. The trailheads are within walking distance of each other, and the Watch Hill Foot Trail even connects to Snowy's trailhead.
Only saw one other party on the trail. Meanwhile, Snowy's trailhead down the road was full of cars when I drove by.
This will be my final "serious" hike until I get my massive kidney stone removed. It has ruined so many trips in recent years (since my New England trip in July 2019) and seems to be getting worse and worse. This is now the second road trip in a row that I had to cut short because of excruciating and long-lasting flank pain. My post-hike agony far exceeds the joy I feel during my hikes. As much as I was looking forward to going all out during prime hiking season, taking care..." — theascent • Sep 10, 2022

"Decided to canoe off our island in Indian Lake for the day. The trail is close to the campground. Was a nice, easy hike. I was expecting a view over Indian Lake but we were actually facing west. Not sure if we missed another view. We turned back instead of looking because we needed to get back in our canoes!" — Jaando • Aug 20, 2019

"Solo. Started out around 0900. My car was showing -1° when I started out, a crisp cold grey day preceding (likely) snow tonight. I was aiming for two small peaks today to test out two new pieces of gear- boots and a pack. Lots of hard packed snow on trail with a light dusting of snow on top. This was a nice easy climb, that started out on the flat and then had a tiny push at the top. The view was pretty nice, I could see Snowy Mtn & its firetower pretty clearly. The new boots are good, will need some break in around the top of the ankles, they’re a bit stiff on the outsides, and the pack fits like a dream, so I decided to go bag another small peak on my way back south to my house. "My last hike of the day. Nice directional view just below the summit, but not of Indian Lake. Maybe if I followed the trail further down, I would have had that view. This concluded my Indian Lake 4321 challenge. I claimed my patch in town, then drove to the Catskills. " — newenglandwarrior • Aug 25, 2018

"Mystery hike today. Mostly compact snow but there were several bad spots where you'd post hole up to your knee or higher. It was a lot of effort for a fairly short hike. The summit was nice. The sun never did make an appearance. It remained overcast all day. " — Hillary • Apr 5, 2017

"Second summit of a 4 summit day. Nice hike with great views at the top of Snowy and Pillsbury (in the distance) the Autumn colours made it even more spectacular.......definitely recommend this hike in Autumn/Fall." — HikingViking • Oct 9, 2016
