"After parking on Boonton Avenue, as the Pyramid Mountain lot was overflowing with weekend hiker's cars, my friend and I ascended to the top of Turkey mountain. We took the 100 steps trail, a real misnomer, because it is a heck of a lot more than 100! It is a very steep ascent within a wide power line pathway with various sized rock "steps". It was a very tough climb, and we had to stop many times to catch our breath. We took the trail clockwise so as to get the difficult climb in to start and not have to deal with coming down those steep steps at the end of our hike. After reaching the top step, we continued on the yellow trail which leads to the Turkey Mountain summit. The summit offered no clear views of anything below, even with the trees being leafless in January. From that point we took a green trail which leads back across the power line path and down to the Lake Valhalla overlook. That ledge offers one of the best views in the state, overlooking the Jersey lowlands out to the NYC skyline. Green trail led to yellow, which got us back to Boonton Avenue and my car.
