"Over to Blue Mountain reservation to do loop of Spitz and Blue to kill time while two real estate agents came to our house with their clients to do a looky loo tour. Not quite “Tarzan hot” but still a rather warm day right around the noon hour. Stayed under a 3 mph pace for a steady easy stroll meeting some deer, mountain bikers getting a lunch time ride in but no snakes or other hikers.

"Originally I was headed to the Catskills to bag a couple of peaks but a half hour from my house I ran over something metal that punctured one of my rear tires. Luckily I was able to pull into an empty parking lot to switch the fully flat tire to the silly donut spare then drive a ridiculously slow speed back home. Went to my local tire guy to get the tire plugged, hole too big need new tire. Tire out of stock so had to order.
Hiked Spitz and Blue to kill time waiting for the tire to arrive and stretch the legs a bit in the nice warming weather. No other hikers or mountain bikers out and about. Spotted some wild columbine and trout lilies blooming so snapped some pics." — Nimblefoot • Apr 25, 2025
"Stretching the legs on two little peaks that I needed for the month of January. As a gridder you always have that monthly itch. Easy loop of the blue and white trails on Turkey where I found quite a bit of ice but managed to get by without any traction device. An out and back for Spitzenberg where I found very little ice or frozen snow. Very few others out and about despite it being early afternoon and the sun shining enough to remind me to put on the shades." — Nimblefoot • Jan 30, 2025
"Short drive over to Yorktown Heights to hike a loop of Turkey mountain with my friend Richard to see how he is doing. He broke one bone in his lower leg in the middle of a 6-peak hike in the Catskills back in May. He is doing loops of Turkey as one of his rehab sites to gain full mobility in his ankle and strength the lower leg. He still has a way to go to get back to his normal hiking pace and endurance which will take awhile at 74 years old.
As he went onto his second lap of Turkey I shopped at Lowe’s and Home Depot on my way to Blue Mountain Reservation to do a loop of Spitz and Blue for the month of September. No cars or walkers/hikers encountered in Blue today, guess the forecast for rain kept everyone home. Quick stop for some grocery shopping then home for lunch before any rain started." — Nimblefoot • Sep 25, 2024
"Late afternoon power hike of Blue and Spitz. Taking advantage of the spring-like conditions of bare ground and temps in the 40’s. Nice views out over the Hudson River while I still had daylight. Back to the car before it’s completely dark." — Nimblefoot • Feb 6, 2024
"Short O&B romp on the Briarcliff-Peekskill trail way from Blue mountain reserve to Collabaugh Pond road. With the ascents of Spitz and Blue added on plus some cruising on other trails in the reserve brought the mileage up to 12. Took advantage of a sunny dry,and humid, afternoon after a number of days off/on rain. A thunderstorm that dropped a sprinkle or two reduced the humidity nicely for the second half of my hike." — Nimblefoot • Jun 25, 2023
"Out for a fitness hike in Blue Mountain Reservation topping out on Spitz and Blue in the process. An incoming thunderstorm prompted me to shift gears into trail running so as to get back to the car without getting too wet and cold. Encountered two mountain bikers, first one was on a fattie and didn’t yield me nor nod/say hello(bad) then the second on a regular bike nodded and avoided me Covid-style(better)." — Nimblefoot • Apr 21, 2021
"Out for a walk in Blue Mountain Reservation with the wife. She wanted to get some fresh air after staring at computer monitors all week for 10-11 hrs a day. The nice sunny weather had numerous others doing the same thing. " — Nimblefoot • Oct 17, 2020
"Took a short on the Peekskill-Briarcliff trailway before the forecasted afternoon rain got started. On my way out from Blue Mtn Reservation I was passing Spitzenberg so I bopped up to get the limited view down the Hudson. On my way back the steady rain hadn’t set in yet so I decided to visit the other peak, Blue, for a twosie day. A bit damp at the car from the initial light rain but home in five minutes for a late lunch." — Nimblefoot • May 8, 2020
"A short hike for the wife in the Reservation that is only 5 minutes from our house. A sunny and warm Easter Sunday that turned cloudy as the noon hour approached. Encountered numerous families, dog walkers and mountain bikers enjoying the day." — Nimblefoot • Apr 12, 2020
