"My first hike of the day. The Federated Women's Club State Forest is pretty awful in regards to navigation. There is minimal to no blazes, the kiosk map at the campground sucks, and there are no trail signs anywhere. I relied on my GPS to get me to the correct trail. The hike wasn't bad. The summit of Soapstone is a short bushwack and is a wooded summit. To the south of the summit along the trail there are some nice ledge views. In regards to the fire tower, it is not on the summit. Instead, it is near the Quabbin Reservoir along the Rabbit Run Rail Bed, to the west of the summit of Soapstone Hill. I took a semi overgrown trail past a yellow gate in the campground to reach the Rail Bed. I had to walk along a beaver dam along the way. " — newenglandwarrior • Nov 15, 2025
