"Malaysia. We started walking at night from near Pantai Cenang. We scared off groups of aggressive monkeys by shouting and throwing rocks. We reached the start of the Seven Wells when the sun was warming up. We made our way through dense jungle and had leeches sucking our legs. I got dizzy after we left the easy part behind us. The path became roped and very steep. We rested, endured and made it to the summit at noon. Got a ride back from two Indonesian artists who play Dutch disco music and a friendly driver from a closed resort. We wore face masks and practised social distancing." — Pieter • Apr 20, 2020

"Malaysia. Two playful dogs followed us from Tanah Rata Park. We named them Corona and Ebola. They went with us to Parit Falls, up hard in the jungle all the way to the summit and back down into town. Got a ride after monsoon rain hit us on the way back." — Pieter • Mar 19, 2020

"We departed from PJ at 1am, and reached Lata Belatan at about 7:30am. Most of us did not get enough sleep.
Crossed one river and two streams. No shoes are removed, but balancing is needed to cross the third stream. (Thanks angel, for lending me your poles. Without ‘em, I’ll have to hike up the mountain with wet feet.)
The peak is surrounded by bonsai trees. On a clear day, you can see Perhentian Island. I made a half ass attempt to locate the elusive lookout point, but to no avail. Maybe I was just too tired. 😖
Really love the vibe... hikers helping hikers, the encouragements, new friendships and alone time with nature.
Some hikers ran out of water. Some did not peak (cut off time is 1pm). Some experienced muscle cramps (me included). And some were stung by wasps.
The KLHG organizers did a great job to make this possible. It’d be a nightmare to handle a group of 56 people with different personalities, different age groups and different expectations. But everything went well, and the trip was awesome!" — Tailor • Apr 27, 2019

"I did not make it to the peak due to wasp stings. A fellow hiker stirred a wasp nest accidentally. Needless to say, she got stung. After that, every one that passed that part of the trail were stung, including me.
Despite the stings, I was adamant to make it to the peak (or Camp 7E at least). So I carried on. Less than 10 minutes later, I noticed a fellow car mate lying on the ground. She had an allergic reaction due to the wasp stings. Her condition was pretty bad... swollen face, hives on her body, vomiting, her nails purpled. She was unable to walk, and can’t speak properly. She was shivering. I decided to abandon my plan to peak and stayed by her side. She felt better after swallowing antihistamine but was still too weak to walk. The guide and her friend were calm and stayed with us throughout. In situations like this, we have no choice but to wait it out.
As I was too concerned about my car mate’s condition, I forgot that I had an emergency blanket with me. So she was left shivering on the ground for about an hour before I realized I have an emergency blanket that can warm her up. 😖
After about two hours, my car mate regained her strength and the guide and her friend..." — Tailor • Apr 13, 2019

"The trail is straightforward and easy to follow.
Nice weather. Eventhough sunny, the cooling breeze kept the heat at bay.
There’re a lot of people queuing up at the vertical stonewall, the final ascend before reaching the peak.
Despite the slight delay, was thankful for the crowd as some experienced hikers helped and coached others who are less experienced up that steep ascend. This made the ascend less scary, as I’m comforted by the knowledge that someone will have my back if I’m stuck halfway. (But of course, if you really don’t think you can do it, then, please don’t tempt fate.)
Anyway, did not make it to Twin Peak as I’m not confident if we can make it out of the trail on time.
All in all, a very relaxing hike." — Tailor • Mar 16, 2019
