"Chris & I did a great trip to Zion area with no real plans. On the second day there we drove up to where the road is closed up the main canyon & parked in the lowest spot off route 9. We walked up the closed road to the first shuttle stop. (This was quite nice! A storm was clearing & low clouds swirled all around. The birds were chirping & we ran into the biggest turkey I've ever seen. We saw a lot more than we would have from the shuttle.) We hopped on the shuttle & visited each of the stops. When we got to the stop for West Rim, we decided to hike up the trail on a whim. We hiked all the way up to Scout's Landing. Though the trail was more crowded than I typically prefer, it wasn't as bad as I thought! It was actually very inspiring to see so many different types of people from young kids to elderly, fit to heavy, all different nationalities, pushing themselves up the switchbacks. Saw 4 condors soaring above the canyon. From there, we continued up West Rim & the crowds disappeared. We visited this bump just off the trail & continued to where the trail starts to descend before turning around. This is actually a bit higher than Angel's Landing & the views were incredible all along ..." — StudioHoodoo • Apr 14, 2026
"I took the first shuttle of the day from the visitor center at 0700 (got in line first at 0640) and made the summit at 0805, where I stayed to watch the sunrise over the canyon walls at 0825. The summit became packed on the descent by 0845. When I walked to Scout's Lookout, I noticed there were probably 50 people at the point versus about 8 when I first started. Do the Angels Landing hike super early or super late. I accidentally walked way past Scout's Lookout so I bagged Refrigerator Peak without even knowing it existed or its name. Just looked like a nice peak with decent views. Fairly easy one to bag with similar views to Angel's Landing but facing north (it does have a panoramic view but the best view is east and north).
