"Loop of Big Indian and Fir from Biscuit Brook TH. P-W trail all the way up then HP to can on Big Indian. Solid herd path between the peaks and back down to the P-W trail. After a quick lunch at the TH I headed over to Denning road to climb up Red Hill via the new trail. I needed the new trail for round 2 of the All Trails challenge and the climb completes the ‘22 DEC Fire tower challenge of 6 towers and round #8 of the Catskill Fire Towers(5). The new trail has a nice easy grade you barely know your climbing up. It weaves through some rock outcrops and appears to be the handiwork of Ed Walsh’s Tahawus trail building crew." — Nimblefoot • May 23, 2022

"2nd Catskills hike! 4.5 miles, 1233 feet of elevation gain. Great steward at the summit, well maintained trail (did the new DEC trail from the Claryville lot.) Enjoyed the natural spring near the summit." — EmilyDoucet729 • Aug 7, 2021

"Climbed 2/16/2021. 4.0 miles roundtrip. Elevation gain 1083ft. Hiked the new Denning Rd (blue) Trail. (Not Dinch Rd Trail (yellow)). Good snow pack and trail is completely broken in all the way to the top. Warm day, 37degres. Very little wind except at the top. Used snowshoes all the way up. Gradual climb up to the 1.4-mile mark where it intersects the Dinch Rd Trail (yellow). After that it was a moderate climb. The cab was locked. Had a nice outhouse with TP and a light at the top. The ranger cabin at the top was locked " — Tree2topper • Feb 16, 2021

"Took the new trail from Denning. It was 4 mile round trip, so longer than the other trail. It was very pleasant and gradual. It was a very cold and windy day. This was 5/5 Catskill fire tower for me. I noticed a brewery in the town of Denning. I might have to come back in fairer weather. It was a very nice but long drive. " — bethmorgan • Jan 23, 2021
"A quick scoot up West Kill in the morning then Red Hill in the afternoon after a bit of driving. Drove on fresh oil and stone at the end of Spruceton road put down on Wednesday the 15th. On my way to Red Hill drove by the infamous Blue Hole which was a bit zoo-ey with cars parking everywhere and people walking to the swimming hole. The boys in green(DEC) were on site doing some pricey paperwork and keeping the peace." — Nimblefoot • Jul 16, 2020
"Met up with Tom, Anna, Peter and MiMi at Deep Notch PA for a leisurely ascent of Halcott. We enjoyed a Korean noodle dish with beef, shiitake mushrooms and fish cake on the summit thanks to MiMi. Back at the PA we enjoyed some cannolis with our seltzer’s before parting ways. To finish my day I headed over to Red Hill PA to do a quick hike up to the tower to take a selfie for the new fire tower challenge. Despite numerous cars, even in the winter lot, I managed to find a spot in the parking lot. Quite a few groups hanging out at the summit enjoying the afternoon." — Nimblefoot • Aug 3, 2019

"we were looking for a few short hikes with the pups and decided on Red Hill and Tremper. We did the short climb of Red Hill and then started our drive toward Tremper. However, on the way we were passing a lot of favorite trailheads and as we approached Panther we thought the day was just too nice to pass up this fabulous hike - so we pulled in and off we went. A great day to be in the woods!" — deb-and-rob • Mar 24, 2019

"After Giant Ledge and Panther I stopped at Red Hill to round out the miles for the day and check off a peak on the fire tower challenge. Pretty tough climb for 2.8 miles out and back!" — pandyabear • Mar 17, 2019

"It was quite a haul to the trailhead for this little mountain. Had to park about a half mile before the trailhead parking as the road was very icy, despite having been plowed. The trail was broken out, which was good as there was a thick layer of ice over the snow. I was able to bare boot the entire trail up and down. The views from the tower were awesome!" — ne4kclimber • Feb 17, 2019
" Beautiful blue sky day with no clouds or wind. Parked in the winter lot then bare-booted down the road to the summer lot walking in tire tracks from a large truck that continued past the trailhead. Broke out a snowshoe track through the crust covered snow up to the tower and cabin. The thermometer on the cabin was registering 19*. Climbed to the upper most landing just under the cab of the tower to take in the fabulously clear view." — Nimblefoot • Nov 23, 2018
