A dull cloudy day with low cloud & rain forecast. From Cinderdale, we walked along the road, then up the steep SW ridge of Rannerdale Knotts. On the summit ridge the views of the higher Lake District hills were obscured by heavy clouds. We walked along the ridge, but the rain got worse and cloud came down, so we walked to the col and descended into Rannerdale valley and back to Cinderdale
