"99% humidity, I sweat through my shirt within the first mile and the views were considerably hazy. There were miraculously few bugs, however, and the temperature was pleasant in the shade - which was most of the hike. I set off from the trailhead just before 9:45am. The trail starts off flat, but quickly gains elevation after the first stream crossing. The water level of Andrew Brook was surprisingly low despite recent rain and the trail only had a few spots of mud. After about 2 miles I reached Lake Solitude which has several rocky outcroppings near the trail that serve as miniature "beaches". A quarter-mile climb later and there's a small detour to the White Ledges which has an excellent viewpoint over Lake Solitude and to the southeast. After the Ledges, the trail descends slightly before reaching a maintenance road that also serves as the Stovepipe ski trail. A quick climb later and I reached the Summit Lodge which offered respite from the humidity. Mt. Sunapee runs a ski lift and the Lodge serves food and drink during the summer months, so there were many families that rode up and hiked between the summit and the White Ledges. "New snow has arrived. About 2-3 inches at the trailhead. Around 8 at the summit, with drifts to 12”. Lake Solitude is frozen over. But the day was cloudy with some stiff winds. 22 deg up top. " — Alohabuffy • Dec 6, 2020
"Another beautifully sunny day, temps in the 30s. Lots of people on the trail today, socially distancing. Great views from the summit and from White Cliffs over Lake Solitude." — Alohabuffy • Mar 22, 2020
"Led a SRKG sponsored hike up the Summit Trail. Great weather after two days of freezing rain and snow. Trail in good condition. Snowshoes the whole way. Ski lifts were frozen so we had the summit lodge all to ourselves. A nice quiet lunch by the fire!!" — goshen-bagger • Feb 8, 2020
"Lempster Community School, Wildcat Outing Club, field trip. Ten 4th thru 7th grades had a great hike to the summit where we had lunch in the lodge before heading down. Cool, drizzle and some rain. The sun came out as we got back to the cars!" — goshen-bagger • Jun 15, 2018
"Spent the morning cleaning up blowdowns and channel bars the Summit Trail. First time back in the woods since I fell off my roof three weeks ago. Dislocated shoulder healing fast! " — goshen-bagger • Nov 22, 2017
"Solo hike in the afternoon. Trail was pretty wet due to the rain in the morning, and the fact that you're hiking up a stream bed until you get to the junction. A great hike for anyone who enjoys running water. Lake Solitude was pretty cool as were White Ledges. " — Selrahc2nd • Sep 19, 2012
"A beautiful day for a hike & this began the 48 mile Monadnock Sunnapee Greenway. I had been at a wedding in Sunnapee & I live 15 minutes from Mount Monadnock, so I figured I'd hike home." — VonSelmer • Jul 17, 2011
