"Hiked up the Old carriage road and back. Nice directional views from the top. Fire Tower was closed. Mud and bugs to start. Trail is somewhat overgrown but easy to follow. Pulled two ticks off myself once back at the car. 2 Miles round trip!" — Selrahc2nd • May 24, 2024

"A NH Fire Tower Quest day. Climbed up from the main pkg. lot. I didn't realize the loop trail descended so much! Terrific views on this nearly clear day from both the road and the summit. Unfortunately the house wasn't open but noticed the fire ranger truck so I tried the tower entrance. It was open.. on a Monday! After climbing the stairs he let me into the upper tower area, and we had a nice conversation. He told me a couple of cool stories about the tower site and the surrounding area. Also met a local walking his dog on the road back down. Left this place a happy camper!" — SteveM_StickMan • Sep 14, 2020

"Nora, Kali and I went on a tour of the John W. Weeks house and Fire Tower in Lancaster, NH today.
For those who may not know, John Wingate Weeks was a US Senator in the early 1900s and was instrumental in passing the Weeks Act, which allowed the US government to purchase private land to protect the waterflow. This land was the start of our national forest land in the eastern part of the US.
Before the act was passed, much of the land in the appalachian mountains, both in New Hampshire and in the southern parts of Appalachia as well were being heavily deforested. The rivers were being clogged by logs and logging debris and things were looking pretty grim.
Anyway, this tour included a small nature hike with some pretty views, even though it was a grey day. The autumn foliage shone through." — Hufflepuff • Oct 12, 2019

"Always a fun trip. I hadn't been on a tour of the summit house since I was six years old, and was dumbfounded at how much historical information I had discarded since then--important details about the Weeks family and our national parks and forests. We enjoyed our migration through the house and the views from the fire tower, and headed back down, only to cross paths with my cousin Dave on the way." — gooner • May 26, 2019

"My first mountain. Summited with Mom, Dad, Meg, and Erin. We brought our lunch, took a tour of the Weeks house on top, and were invited by a man on duty into the very top portion of the fire tower. He gave me a Smokey the Bear sticker. I think the summit might have been the first time I saw a humming bird in person. They had a feeder or two on the porch of the summit house." — gooner • Jul 15, 1997
