Walked into Gabriel hut in evening, 2 hrs.
Went up an eastern spur next day to Mt Longfellow, easy bash through beech forest low down, easy spur travel for most part, some scrambling on loose rock in parts, some exposure.
Summit ridge easy at first then some moderate scrambling with a bit of exposure further on, final bit to the top easy peasy.
Took a spur west from just north of summit, scree and tussock, no concerns.
Travelled down Evangeline stream, unofficial track marked by ribbon in places, brief gorge section.
Nice walk along lake Sumner and then back out down the Hurunui. 14.5 hrs 2nd day.
