"Climbed from geologist creek. Claggy at the top but moments of blue sky, ground was frozen which was good. On the way back down the frost had melted a bit so very slippery and a little muddy. The dog was not impressed with my slow pace . Met one person on my way up who had stayed the night. 2.45 hrs up and 2.39hrs decent. 1 hour off my PB each way so a bit more training needed 😂" — emmathomas • Jul 2, 2022
"Walked up and back the Geologist Creek route this trip. It was a bit cloudy in some directions but I had views from the summit. Not far from the summit I saw a chamois. The return trip including 3 stops took 5¾ hrs. Met two guys descending who had stayed the night at the hut on my way up and two women heading to the hut when I was descending." — glennj • May 6, 2022
"With DW. We walked up the Geologist Creek route to the hut, climbed the hill and returned to the hut, then descended via the Styx route.
The Geologists route was a bit muddy in places. A good day out!" — glennj • May 2, 2021
"Walked up and back the Geologists Creek track arriving on the summit about 11am. Had a glorious sunny day with a heavy frost. On the descent I met at least 9 other people on the way to look at the views from the tops and or intending to visit the hut. This trip marked 50 years since I first climbed Mt Brown." — glennj • May 6, 2020
"Went to Mt Brown Hut via the Styx, climbed the hill, descended to the hut and then went out via the Geologists Creek track. Walked along the road back to my car at the Styx carpark. The weather was clearing post rain and quite nice with the sun trying to burn off thin cloud." — glennj • May 9, 2018
"Day trip from the Geologists Ck carpark via Mt Brown Hut. I was the first person up since a snowfall and had powder snow averaging about calf deep to travel through once above the bush line. Wx was great." — glennj • Sep 9, 2016
"Went up to the top & back from the "New" Mt Brown hut. Made a circuit trip from the Styx car park. Went up the Styx, down to Geologist Creek & along the road back to the vehicle. My dog came with me as she does on many of the semi regular trips up Mt Brown." — glennj • Apr 12, 2011
"Walked up and back via the Geoligists Creek route. The weather was very cold as cloud came in after a frost and then the wind got up. The trip was to commemorate my first climb of Mt Brown in May 1970. Saw one hind in the bush on the way up and several powelliphanta snail shells in the tussock." — glennj • May 5, 2010
"A group of nine including parents & their children from Hokitika spent a long day walking up & back. I was one of the children back then and have been walking up Mt Brown semi regularly ever since." — glennj • May 3, 1970
