A challenging trip up a crumbling volcano. Bit of a bushwack to get to the base, and then tough scree up to the tusk. Once you hit the chimney the real work begins, with extremely loose rock on a class 3/4 scramble. Wearing a helmet is mandatory, and pushing to the summit should only be attempted in good conditions as the final 20m are fairly exposed and difficult when coated in snow or verglas. Smaller parties are recommended, as there are many areas where climbers will have to take shelter while others negotiate tricky sections.
