"Decided to embrace a long day and attempt La Bohn Peak w/ my trusty peakbagging pooch, Jed. The "waterfall route" looked pretty straight forward, but looked like it might require the use of hands (not just paws), so I decided to take the alternate route. The snow was still pretty firm and, while I had an ice axe, I had only trail runners and microspikes on my feet. The snow fields were steep enough that I chose to ascend a small gully with water running through it. This allowed me to squeeze through the moat between the rocks and the melting snow strip. Jed walked up the snow. However, as I gained elevation, I saw that it was very hollow underneath (with running water beneath) and I worried that Jed would punch through and get trapped. We turned back and, while I shimmied my way back down, a large chunk of solid snow (maybe 6 x 6 x 3 feet thick) broke off and pinned my legs together against the rocks. I felt a sharp twinge in my left knee and visions of "127 hours" flashed through my mind.
