A nice "easy Sunday Hike" (TM Kevin). We could have driven much closer to Good Benchmark, as the pole road went all the way there (and past it), but we decided to stretch our legs (AKA Kevin thinks we're lazy and out of shape. I can't dispute the point. ;) ) and walk the road to the beginning of the ridgeline. Pretty standard desert peaks-ish; limestone that cuts like razors, scrubby bushes and cacti (and Joshua trees) everywhere, random people out firing guns in the desert and leaving their trash (ARGH), and fossils in most of the rocks. We followed the ridgeline north up to Good benchmark, and then continued straight north back down to the saddle between Good benchmark and Joshua Peak and straight on up to Joshua Peak. We retraced our route south back to the saddle and then straight down the west face between Joshua Peak/Good Benchmark, then followed the wash + road back to the pole road and back out. A good day! Very warm for January.
