"A short walk westwards from the road. It is a pity that in this whole area of stunning beauty, mixed forest with chestnuts and oak on the lower reaches, then pine and beech, in radiant autumnal splendour, carpeted with russet and copper leaves, has as its highest point lots of nasty radio antennae and frefab buildings. But at least the stillness of this landscape, just 2 degrees Celsius on my visit, calms somewhat. A bit of a shame for the high point of a natural park, though." — vygodski • Nov 15, 2024

"Westwards through the forest on an unmarked path from Botte Donato, after dropping down from the top southwards 40 metres or so. Seems to be all beech, would be difficult to find way in poor visibility, but fortunately the clouds held off. Saw a couple of small patches of snow. First climbs the neighbouring peak of Donato at similar height, then descends to bend in road, then its a straightforward climb to this. (From here on to Coppo)." — vygodski • Nov 15, 2024

"After Sorbello, walked the asphalt road round to the south of this, then made way across. It is little more than a bump. Then rejoined the road to the north to return to the east of Botte Donato. Noticed how sandy the terrain was where exposed, and that the rock was like a granular sort of sandstone - brittle. Must read about the geology. Also, on the drive up, saw a fox, quite brown grey in colour. " — vygodski • Nov 15, 2024

"A slightly frustrating day as a bit of faffing meant I ended heading up this rather than Serra Dolcedorme, which I'd have preferred to prioritise. Nonetheless a good day's hiking, leaving from Colle Impiso, following the track at first (missed the actual trailhead as I was trying to escape two coach loads of tourists who had just been disgorged and were busy singing, shouting, and pissing everywhere), which eventually goes south for a long while, dropping to 1500m before rising to 1700m at the Piano Guadalino. From here the route rises along the west side of this hill, carrying on SSE, before doubling back, more or less, behind the rocky outcrops to gradually arrive at the top to the East. Returned by the same route. Found the trail for the last section easier. Mostly ok sign posted.
I was tempted to continue to Dolcedorme but was dissuaded by poor visibility at the top and the threat of rain. And I was glad I didn't because I was cream crackered by the end. Some 16km in all." — vygodski • May 26, 2024
