- Grant Mountain is named for Pres. Ulysses S. Grant who wrote his memoirs at Grant Cottage which has recently also been added to Moreau Lake State Park. He died a few days after finishing them, but their huge success gave his widow a comfortable old age.

"We parked at the NW corner of the park at Sheridan Picnic Area and hiked south along the Palmertown Ridge and return. I was surprised by the wilderness feel to the park. It really is nice.
