My second HPS summit of the day. I drove all the way up Sunrise Highway to Kwaaymii Point. If I drove any further, I would be in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. The PCT is accessible from here, but instead of taking the PCT, I walked up the road a few yards to a locked vehicle gate. I went through the gate and accessed the jeep road. It climbs toward the summit, but it tops out at a lookout a little bit below the top. Instead of declaring a cheap victory, I set out to find a way to the actual summit. I could see a metal pole marking the top, but getting to it was the question of the moment. It looked like it would be a bushwhack to the top through the thick shrubs. Fortunately, on closer inspection, I was able to simply reach down and move the overhanging brush out of the way as I followed a path of least resistance to the summit (this saved my bare legs). My quick x-country maneuvers worked well. From the top, I had a clear view of nearby Pine Mountain, which would be my next stop on the day.
