"Parked on Rt 9 by Monument trail followed trail to bike path walked the bake path to the trail up into the woods. .It was a beautiful day for this hike. Mountain views were gorgeous even had a view of Lake George if you continue the trail to the end. Did have to fight a few bugs but not bad. trail was nice walking, with just a couple muddy spots that were easy to get around." — sarahlaustrup • Aug 14, 2022
"Hiked with Tommy.
I suppose the shoulder of the mountain is as good as the summit gets for this as the summit is posted as private land, with plenty of purposefully downed logs to keep people away.
We started our hike late (for us, I think it was about 8:45). The Ephram Williams Jr memorial was an interesting item to look at just after climbing over a recently downed tree.
The weather was favorable in the high 40’s/low 50’s with none of the predicted cloud cover the forecast had called for.
After a short drop through the woods we encountered a beautiful and wide paved bike path alongside a stream that we followed for a bit before scrambling up some rocks to start the proper hiking part. Trail conditions were a thick bed of leaves with very few muddy patches and even fewer tiny ice patches. Bare boots the whole way. The hike was short but a steady uphill and we shed layers quickly.
At the summit we poked around looking for a good view and chatted with some other hikers that came up after us, and passed another group of 4 on their way up on our way out.
Nice little stretch the legs hike with a short drive for us too. Stopped at Adirondack brewery for lunch aft..." — kellieirene • Mar 27, 2021
"Hiked with Kellie. First ones in the parking lot. Avoided the private property towards the top, but did hike down a little on the cliffs to get a better view of the lake. Met a guy hiking with his dog and had a nice conversation before heading down. Nice quick hike. " — LGH-Tom • Mar 27, 2021
"French Mountain
March 19th, 2019
9:23a So we started our journey around 9am this morning. Just my friend Jon, his dog Nikida and myself. We are up the mountain a pretty good ways but still haven’t passed the highest I have made it. In case I haven’t documented it before, I have attempted French Mountain twice by myself but have turned back both times due to it being winter and starting to get dark. I don’t do night hikes alone in the winter. Too many things can go wrong. Although, now that I think of it. Doing a sunset hike up French during the summer or possibly even late fall when the Great Escape is open might actually be really pretty with all of the lights.
9:47a We have officially passed the highest point I have made it on French Mountain. Pretty happy about it and excited that I finally get to complete this hike. I have been waiting for this for so long.
10:36a Wow. Just wow. We have reached the summit, or at least the marked summit. It overlooks the million dollar mile, and most of that area in Lake George, in the distance we can actually see The Great Escape, in reality it's just Sasquatch, Flashback, and Skycoaster (Dare Devil Dive) but it's just so amazin..." — devenmosher24 • Mar 19, 2019
