"Started out on July 31, 2017 in the middle of one of the worst heat waves in Washington State history. We encountered dense smoke from a series of forest fires in the Pacific NW, mostly from British Columbia. We were going to attempt either Shark Fin Tower or Forbidden on August 1st but bailed on both after assessing the smoke (code red air pollution) and rapidly melting glaciers and snow fields. The snow patches below the main tower on Shark Fin would have been hazardous even with crampons and ice axes (too slushy). The climber's route trailhead to Forbidden was 92 degrees at 4 pm on July 31st. It was over 100 degrees at Marblemount. Instead we drove several hours south to Mt. Rainier, where there was a lot less smoke and better visibility, and climbed Pyramid Peak." — tlannin • Aug 1, 2017
"A group of 5 or 6 of us climbed to the East ridge, crossed over to the North face and direct to the summit. A class 4 and 5 climb on the North face direct. A long time ago!!!!!" — Kreig • Aug 11, 1972
