"From the car park opposite the hotel, I took the track north past the farm, passing two gates in the walls, before contouring up north-east onto the highest of the Littaford Tors. Continuing north, I traversed Longaford Tor, then heading NNE to the summit of Higher White Tor. A good path took me north onto Lower White Tor, where it petered out. Then followed 4km of very rough, mostly pathless, boggy hiking over Pt. 539m and Flat Tor, up to the peat hag summit of Cut Hill, my main objective of the day. The place felt very remote - for southern England. A further 3km of very rough hiking south brought me eventually onto Rough Tor, where a bit of a path WSW brought me onto Devil's Tor. A path south from there made for easier going to Beardown, where I scaled the 511m eastern tor before heading west to the summit tor. Heading south, I joined the path through Beardown Forest by a leete, and down past Beardown Farm to the River Cowsic, and so on a trail by the river to the road near Two Bridges. Solo. A fine sunny day with much sunshine for most of it, clouding over a little in the late afternoon. The strong northerly wind eased in the afternoon. "My Bombardier Leadership course was carried out in Plymouth and around Dartmoor. I also spent a few weeks on Military excercise in and around the Moors. Okehampton was our basecamp, along with many other bivy areas around DTA (Dartmoor Training Area) spent many hours, both day and night, tabbing around Dartmoor in the cold and wet......it was ALWAYS cold and wet !!.
