"We spent the night at Katahdin Stream Campground, then hiked out to Daciey and Kidney Ponds. We then hiked up Doubletop from the south. That was a beast of an ascent, especially with the heat. We slowly made our way to the top and enjoyed the awesome views for awhile. We then headed down the north side of the mountain to complete our 4 day backpack and stay at a lean to in Neosowdahunk. "The first time I entered BSP, I saw Doubletop and was impressed by what I saw and wanted to hike it. I finally had that opportunity. I went up from the northern side. Both peaks had great views and I hung out up there for an hour. " — newenglandwarrior • Oct 7, 2016
"Perfect day for a fall hike. Thought this would be a nice easy hike for a warm up for Mount Katahdin. Well I was wrong at 1.7 miles we encountered the "Mile from Hell" as one of my fellow hikers called it. It was tougher than I had anticipated and the views from the top were wonderful. Hard to beat Maine in the fall. As we were dragging our butts back to camp we encountered a Bull, Cow and Calf Moose which made me forget about all my aches and pains for a little while. "What a great day for a hike. What a great hike it was. Sept 27 my life was nearly lost has I was attacked by a dairy cow on our farm. That witch with a b was not going to keep me from my planned hike with my posse. So battered and bruised and with ten staples in my scalp off to Nesowadnehunk camp ground to claim the bunkhouse. We were headed to Baxter to do the Brothers, but decided because of the beating I had been given, Doubletop was an easier hike. What a great day. The view from the top was awesome. We met a guy at the top who we had a friend in common with. Skipped over to the South peak for more pictures and back to the camp ground. We were on the look out for moose as it was rutting season. With just a quarter of a mile left to hike out. I came upon a cow moose with a calf. I clanked my poles together hoping to encourage her to move on, she just cast a glance to her left where I saw a large bull making googly eyes at her. Obviously I was interrupting and my presence was not wanted here. I backed off and when my friends joined up with me we waited out the moose. Soon they moved off the trail and we hurried on by trying our best to not look like attractive cows.
So great..." — bwright • Oct 6, 2014
