"Standing at an unremarkable 1,155 feet, Kentucky's Cloud Splitter certainly punches above its height! The final section involves a Class 4 roped climb on sandstone rock, mixed in with Class 2-3 scrambling. Your reward is an expansive view of the Red River Gorge, a sliver of Daniel Boone National Forest that boasts the nation's biggest collection of natural arches outside of Utah and Arizona. I would not be surprised if Daniel Boone National Forest or Red River Gorge gets promoted to national park status at some point in my lifetime.
After completing my Cloud Splitter hike and climb, I spent the rest of the day checking out many of the other rock formations in the area including Sky Bridge Arch, Whistling Arch, Princess Arch, Chimney Top, and Natural Bridge. All were very worthwhile inclusions on my itinerary. " — theascent • Apr 25, 2022
