"Hitchhiked out here on a wild day trip from Kihei HI, because the POSER family didn't want to do this one with me. Started in Kihei town's rich area at the turn where the Makena Alanui becomes a highway, then made my way to Kahului, where I met up with a fellow tourist from South Africa, Kelvin, to do this hike with me. Then we made our way to the trailhead and started climbing up through the forest, and with more switchbacks, nice views of the surrounding valleys emerged. Then I made my way higher up as I climbed into the clouds at the plateau near the summit. Then after enjoying the narrow "backbone" section I climbed through the tree forest and reached the summit area and touched in Lanilli Benchmark at the top, which came in and out of the clouds. "I started this day with the easy poser family by driving up the Haleakala Highway and visiting Kalehaku Overlook, which had nice views into the crater. Then I drove up to the visitor center and hiked down into the scenic Haleakala Crater on the Sliding Sands Trail where I saw endless vistas of the scenic volcanic sand and more features as I ventured inot the crater. Then I turned around at a scenic viewpoint called Point of the Cinders at 8800 feet on the trail then climbed back up to the crater rim and then hiked the rest of the way to the summit of Haleakala from the parking lot, as we were afraid of the summit parking being full. Turns out all we got out of it was a unique experience, as the views were quite nice. Then the summit area was quite nice, as you could see all around Maui. Then I just went around the summit loop one lap and then returned to the visitor center parking lot. " — lc444 • Jun 21, 2026

"Went to wa’ahila ridge trail to run the hurt trail series race solo since I couldn’t attend the race due to work and ended up accidentally going off the race course and summiting Mt. Olympus and then heading back down to the turn that goes down into Manoa before turning back to the trailhead. It ended up raining after I came down from the summit so thankfully I just narrowly escaped what would’ve been a dangerously muddy down climb " — tonywhite • Apr 29, 2026
