"A 3-day backpacking trip to Channel Islands National Park, specifically Santa Cruz Island. We took the ferry from Ventura to Prisoner's Harbor, then hiked about 3 miles to Del Norte primitive campgrounds. Once the morning fog cleared, the coastal views were of course great. Once we set up camp, and watched the famed Island Foxes nose around a neighboring site, we did a 4 mile out-and-back to Mount Pleasant, which is essentially a hill. The next morning, we donned the packs and began the long hike towards Scorpion Harbor. The first several miles were fairly easy and level, but that didn't last. "Hiked the short loop trail on our 4th and final day of this epic Channel Islands trip while waiting for the boat to arrive. Another very pretty day with incredible views in every direction. Had the point to ourselves, a recurring theme on this trip, for a peaceful snack break. Sad to leave, but what a time we had." — jodola • Feb 27, 2025
"Completed the visit to Cavern Point at the tail end of my hiking day on Santa Cruz Island. At the time, I had no idea that this was a "Peakery" summit. Great Ocean views on one side, and Ireland like green grassy hill views when turning around with fields of flowers. Early spring has to be the best time to be there." — MikeTeeples • Mar 18, 2017
