Another failed attempt at Griffith. There was a nice crust on the snow, but it was still pretty powdery underneath. We were able to get to about 9300 feet in snowshoes before the snow started to get unstable and we started to think about the possibility of avalanches. We took off our snowshoes and used an ice axe and pole for the descent, so we would have more control going down over the cliffbands. In retrospect, we should have put the snowshoes back on after the crux, but we are stubborn, so we post-holed the rest of the way back to the Cathedral Rock Trail. We took the trail up to Cathedral Rock for another consolation summit before returning along the slushy path to the car.
