3.31.2021~4 Peaks, 6.5 miles, 3,000’ gain in 4:13hrs. Cottonwood Overlook, Meditation Point, Namaste Hill & North Potosi Mtn (aka Buddha’s Rest). I started from Potosi Canyon Rd/Old Spanish trail off SteRt 160. I took the Highline Trail to Cottonwood OvLk & the main ridge. From there it was rough going with agave, cactus landlines and sharp thick brush and pines. The wind was frigid cold. Views were grand. I loved this trek. I’ve driven by this area countless times and never knew these enchanting trails, on the North end of Potosi Mtn., existed. Great day.

Thank you for that track. I used to ignore that lower trail, and once I tried it, it was SO MUCH MORE PLEASANT than barreling down one of the ravines. The Backstory: The lower trail to the NW was built by a rockclimber ("Tom") and is entirely on vanilla BLM land; some of the mysterious side branches go to his favorite climbing areas (also on plain BLM land). Meditation Point is on Boy Scouts of America (BSA) land, but the odd thing is that many of the BSA-built trails are actually on Forest Service and BLM land. Tom's trail connects with the BSA trail where it comes up from the BSA land in the valley. I met Tom on 4/17/2022 and he was quite surprised! I think he started building that trail about 10 years back.
