Beautiful June day for a hike. Buck Hill is on the Appalachian Trail. I started from the official AT parking area near the end of Pleasant St. , NW about two miles from downtown. The trail from there links to the AT. At the AT intersection, you can go left to go west toward Blanchard. I went the other way, turning right to go up Buck Hill. The link trail is pretty flat, and the early part of the AT to Buck Hill is, too, but it gets steeper, especially near the top. The trail had many blown down trees across the trail. It was also surprisingly muddy in places, considering it hasn’t rained lately. I got to the peak elevation of the trail on Buck Hill, where there is a cleared scenic vista with views to the northeast. The “true summit” is marginally higher and in that area. It wasn’t crowded—I only met one hiker on my round trip. Challenging for me—about 70 minutes up, 60 down, but well worth it.
