Finally got to return and complete this hike. Last time I tried it, it was winter, and I was breaking trail in snowshoes. I ran out of time then. I suspected at the time that I was close to the summit, and today, I confirmed that I was probably less than a quarter mile when I turned back. This trail is short, but it's pretty steep and really gets the heart pumping over the 1.2 miles up. The pay-off is a fairly open summit with views in all directions. I could see nearby Mt. Blue, the Jacksons, Saddleback, the rocky, open summit of Abraham, and much more. The only downer was that I had apparently missed peak foliage. A lot of the leaves were gone, and the colors were drab. All in all, it was a great hike, and I was thankful to get back out there. I need to keep it up from now until the end of the year!
