"Part of a walk to bag the last 3 Hewitts I needed in Northumberland. Starting at Barrowburn, went to Uswayford via Middle Hill, then did Bloodybush Edge x2 and Cushat Law prior to taking Clennell Street up to the border ridge and then following the Pennine Way to Windy Gyle. "A cold clear winters day ascent. Started the walk from Barrowburn in upper Coquetdale, we went over Middle hill (395m) and dropped to the Uswayford track, then rather than the way I have used on many occasions to the Scottish border ridge at Dr's Gate, we went the more direct way via Scotchmans Ford. It was cold and windy on the top, but good views along the border ridge. On previous trips, we have continued west on the Border ridge, but this time we returned via Rowhope, to join the road about a mile from our start point" — davidlong • Feb 1, 2011
"Being in the Army, took me to a lot of places of natural beauty and wonder. Living close by to a lot of areas helped also. Otterburn was never one that we particularly enjoyed, due to it always being cold and wet. But, finding areas nearby to explore and come back to was never a bad thing. " — HikingViking • Aug 11, 2005
