"My 5th time up to the spectacular Tinker Cliffs where you can spot just about every mountain in the region. Fresh legs allowed me to run/jog the entire way other than the stairs of death. Beautiful spring-like weather, but pretty muddy trails. " — runshigleyrun • Feb 5, 2023
"A sweltering summer day with a heat index well over 100. Even the cows wouldn't leave the mountain stream (along with the mining, I can't imagine that particular mountain stream is very healthy). A forest dripping in moisture giving life to turkeys, deer, Ghost Pipes, Dead Man's Fingers, and an assortment of other fascinating flora and fauna. Met thru-hikers from Ohio and Pennsylvania. "Epic day of trail-running on one of Roanoke's Triple Crown mountains. A beautiful climb rewarding with unreal views of the Catawba Valley flanked by North Mountain, Catawba Mountain, and famous McAfee Knob. Weather was perfect and the Catawba Creek cooled me down as I reached the bottom. Plenty of AT thru-hikers and Triple Crowners out making their way. " — runshigleyrun • Jul 2, 2021
"A spectacular day full of blackberries, blueberries, and phenomenal views of the Carvins Cove Reservoir that were reminiscent of Scotland. Perfect temps for a trail run up to Hay Rock and beyond. " — runshigleyrun • Jun 24, 2021
"A friend and I hiked up and back for the day. Second bridge was out so we crossed a freezing creek barefoot, really fun! Freezing at the top but entirely worth it. Tough hike, also more commonly known as Tinker Cliffs around here." — Hippiehiker509 • Dec 30, 2013
