"From NM-503 turned on to FR-306. Drove up the dirt road for 8 plus miles to the Borrego Mesa Campground then took a road to the right instead of entering the campground area. Was only able to go about 9/10 mile beyond the campground since I was driving a low clearance compact car. Pulled off the road and hiked up the road to the another road on the right (Trail Head #5) that provides access to Trail 153. About a half-mile in the road is blocked with a green steel gate . A vehicle with 4WD could drive to it. The trail is a bit confusing at the start, best to cut across the meadow to the north where you will pick up TR-153. The trail is obvious for the most part, a little overgrown in spots and blocked by deadfall in a number of places, especially the last two miles before the summit. There is a summit log in a large jar on the summit. Not much of a log really, someone might want to take a small log to replace what's there." — fredbrown585 • Oct 2, 2017

I was able to find Trail Head # 8 but could not find Trail Head # 7. I could see it on my GPS so I marked it and drove to the site. Nothing was there. I had a full backpack of 32 pounds with about 9 pounds of that water. The starting elevation was 8310 feet. I planned to camp overnight along the way because 16 miles up and back was too much for a single day. I could see the trail on my GPS so I followed the red line but I could never spot even a hint of an old trail. I went down a very steep obstructed hill. My hope was to find the trail at the bottom. At the bottom there was no clue of a trail. I wadded across a stream and continued up a hill that showed switchbacks, yet there were none. The hill was very steep and I was scrambling on all fours. I was hoping the trail would appear at the top. I dropped som..." — Phil-Robinson • Aug 10, 2013
