"A nice warm Fall day for doing the trio of Dunderberg, Bald and The Timp in the Harriman/Bear mountain complex. Followed up with a quick jaunt up Sugarloaf Hill before heading off to run some errands." — Nimblefoot • Sep 25, 2020
"An out and back on the AT from Rt 301. Quite a few others out enjoying the fine weather, taking a break from being cooped up in the house. We all managed to do the six foot safety dance and say Hi while passing on an often narrow trail. On my way home took a quick hike up Sugarloaf Hill to fill my afternoon. Never seen so many cars, the small lot in the Castle Rock area was overflowing, but luckily I didn’t see most of the folks." — Nimblefoot • Apr 6, 2020
"Out with my wife Sharon doing two easy hikes, Sugarloaf Hill and trails on the Glenclyffe property along Rt 9D in Garrison, before heading to a hard cider tasting in Fishkill." — Nimblefoot • May 4, 2019
"Originally planned to bag Graham mountain in the Catskills but when I got to the parking lot on Millbrook Road I found it unplowed and snow too deep to chance driving in. Switched to trying Sugarloaf mountain from the Mink Hollow(north) lot since the road and lot should be plowed. Sure enough the road was plowed but the lot only somewhat allowing a few cars to park. Next issue is no snowshoes in the car(oops!) so I try bare-booting in the broken track only to find out that the maker(s) of the track gave up about a quarter mile in. Not wanting to post hole in the nearly foot deep snow all the way up I decided to switch to a Sugarloaf much closer to home. After a short hike over mud, snow and leaves I reach the summit of Sugarloaf Hill and take in the view down to the Bear Mtn bridge. Long drive to a small hill." — Nimblefoot • Nov 17, 2018
"After getting my head properly trimmed, for less drag, I headed down to the Castle Rock area in Putnam Co. to hike up the little ridge known as Sugarloaf Hill. It was a beautiful day so I knew the views were going to be outstanding. I broke out the sticks and made it more of a short easy workout in very comfortable temps. Followed up this hike with two more on the western side of the Hudson to get plenty of views up and down the river." — Nimblefoot • Oct 5, 2018
"Out hiking some local peaks and searching for bench marks. Did Mt Taurus(Bull Hill) first thing in the AM then headed back down Rt 9D to Castle Rock area to wander up Sugarloaf Hill. So far few cars in the lots and even fewer folks out hiking. I found no bench marks but did find the cactus still thriving and a Pileated woodpecker zooming through the trees." — Nimblefoot • Nov 7, 2017
"An out and back hike from South Mountain Pass road to visit the summit of Sugarloaf Hill. Hit the summit of Canada Hill on my way in. The clumps of cactus near the open viewpoint really seem to be dying off, unfortunate and not really surprising. Nice view on a clear and sunny day." — Nimblefoot • Feb 18, 2016
"Hiking the two trails, red & blue, in the Castle Rock Umique Area. Topped out on the summit of Sugarloaf Hill and took in the nice view south to Bear mountain and the bridge. Only one cactus flower left in full bloom now that spring has passed. On to Anthony's Nose for a closer view of the Bear Mt. area." — Nimblefoot • Jun 23, 2015
