- Land owners deny access from the old route to Spread Eagle, but it can be navigated using a series of old roads from the end of Beebe Road. Very few use this route, preferring to climb Hopkins first, then proceed to Spread Eagle.

"Nice short hike with great views from the summit. We walked right from the Rooster Comb Inn so no driving required. While my companions headed down I scooted over to Spread Eagle since it was so close. The warm temps, and baking in the hot sun on Hopkins for a half hour, made the ups and downs over to Spread Eagle a bit more of a workout." — Nimblefoot • May 28, 2023
"Hiked Spread Eagle from Beede Farm Rd. The first mile & a half was spent navigating a series of private roads. I made a couple of wrong turns before I
finally stumbled upon the actual trail which was not marked until the top. I'm guessing not many people access SE from this direction. The trail was hard to
follow on the lower sections & almost felt like a bushwhack. Great views from some of the open ledges around the summit." — billsussdorff • Dec 3, 2019
"Well, I expected a bit more from this peak. There is an OK view along the trail to the Beede farm area (Spread Eagle Trail). The actual summit however, is about 20m into the forest via a short bushwhack. The best views are along the way, on the many ledges. The signs from Hopkins say that Spread Eagle is .2 miles away. Spread Eagle is actually more like .5 miles away, so makes for a 1 mile out and back, with a couple of hundred feet elevation loss/gain from Hopkins. Not too difficult at all, and worth the extra hike if you're out bagging peaks." — HikingViking • Oct 21, 2017
"Enjoyed a great hike with a friend, our 2 pups and her 2 pups. Parked at Roostercomb lot, walked across and started up the trail. Nice easy trail, we stopped often to let the pups cool off in the water as it was the longest hike our 7 month old pups had done so far and they enjoyed the many opportunities to rest, cool off and grab a drink. Took the Ranney Trail up, it remains and easy climb for ~ 2 miles until the junction with the 'Ridge Trail' which climbs a little more steeply and with more rock for ~0.7 miles until the junction for Hopkins/Giant Mountain. From the junction it's only ~ 0.2 miles to Hopkins and the views start quickly. The summit of Hopkins is open and offers incredible views of the High Peaks. Although the sign at the junction for Hopkins says '0.2 to Hopkins and 0.4 to Spread Eagle' it is actually 0.2 to Hopkins and ~ 0.7 from Hopkins to Spread Eagle. From Hopkins we dropped into the col between Hopkins and Spread Eagle (trail is marked and starts off from the southwest or Route 73 side of the summit area) and made the quick trip to Spread Eagle ~0.7 miles away. Spread Eagle has some nice views just before the summit. Roughly 7.5 miles RT. We took a..." — deb-and-rob • May 7, 2016
