"Second attempt a success!! Thanks for the intel Deb & Rob. I started the bushwhack just before the bog &
kept the main brook to my right as I ascended the ridge to the top." — billsussdorff • Jan 14, 2021
"Failed attempt of Slide. I think I followed the brook too far into the col thus overshooting the summit. I did
start to double back & climb but got bogged down in thick spruce & major blowdown. It wasn't the greatest weather day as fairly heavy snow fell eliminating any sight lines. I'll have to return in the spring." — billsussdorff • Dec 8, 2020
"We started out from the Jackrabbit trailhead just after noon. We followed the trail for about 0.7 miles and then cut into the woods just after the bridge. After turning into the woods we headed NW for a bit and then turned towards the col between Black and Slide. We maintained the brook on our right but made a few choices to avoid what looked like thicker woods and this ended up pushing us too far to the west. Although it only added 0.5 or so to our hike it forced us through some thick areas. The summit is treed in but there are views if you poke around a bit. From the summit we descended ENE over the small ridge area and then continued down through much more open woods until we crossed the brook and then maintained the brook on our left while following the remnants of an old trail all the way to the intersection with the Jackrabbit trail and then enjoyed a nice easy walk out. 5.8 miles, 5.5 hours (including 30 minutes at summit and at least another 45 letting pups play in the water).

Future hikers - follow Jackrabbit trail until you see the wetland/bog area - just before this look on the right for remnants of an old trail, (may have pink flagging on tree), turn in here and ..." — deb-and-rob • May 14, 2016
