"We climbed from the south side . Submitted and then sleep at Cole's cave and came down the next day. Lots of water at the cave and the weather was perfect. One of my favorite routes so far." — philipnaude • Sep 23, 2021
"Summited the peak from the South route in mid-winter after a recent snowfall. The path was fairly well worn all the way up to the overnight cave at 2000m altitude. We went off route immediately after the hut en-route (follow the rocks on top of termite hills closely to stay on the path and it becomes well-worn again). We had extreme winds and rain predicted for the second day so we decided en-route that we were making good time (reached the cave in 6 hours including rests and lunch) and that our only window to attempt at the summit would be that afternoon.
We entered the snow at roughly 1900m altitude, from here the route is well kerned to the cave. (Be sure to cross under the rock arch to know you’re on the right track, the cave is close after this). The cave was guarded by many 1m long icicles which would fall at random, it looked awesome but was quite dangerous. We started the summit attempt at 14:30 knowing it’s roughly 1h 30min to the top and set our self a deadline of 16:30 to turn back no matter how close. One starts half way between the rock arch and the cave up a roughly 150m long steep gully which I can imagine it’s easy in normal dry conditions but it was very challe..." — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Aug 8, 2020
"Started at the break of dawn. Very slippery, rocky path. Lucky to have worn long pants as the brush at the bottom was thick and sharp. Cold at the top with powdery snow. Beanie and good jacket recommended. The peak was difficult to find as the beacon had fallen over. I erected the pole of the beacon as best I could - sadly the actual beacon has broken off. Found a cool old oil tin on top. Beautiful scenery, but a climb I will be reluctant to do again in one day - the route on the other side supposedly has a cave to dwell in overnight and fresh drinking water. Very arid conditions on the climb, but the geology is absolutely mind blowing! Note to leave markers on your way up so you can come down the same way - I came down about 1km off my original path and had to climb down a very steep ridge or add another 3 hours to my hike trying to backtrack. Problem lies in the 4 buttresses on the way down which make it impossible to see the bottom of the climb. Good luck. " — joshgordon • Aug 23, 2016
